Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay was born on the 24th of August 1972 at Long Beach California. DuVernay had a close relationship with her Aunt Denise she urged DuVernay to be creative and inspired by the arts. The actress worked as a late night nurse in order to give her aunt time that she required in the day to indulge in theatre, literature, and art. DuVernay liked the film West Side Story, which she taught her. DuVernay was instructed by her mom that art could serve to engage people. DuVernay was also taught by her mother who was a moral compass and urged DuVernay to exhibit her artistic talents. Though DuVernay spent her childhood in Compton and with her extended family, she was a summer resident in Lowndes County Alabama where her father's family lived for generations. Her father, who was DuVernay's dad, reminisced historical civil rights marches through the Edmund Pettus Bridge in the adjacent city of Selma Alabama. Her summers in Alabama's Selma was the inspiration she used to write a movie about the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay was a graduate of Saint Joseph High School Lakewood California, in 1990. DuVernay went to the University of California Los Angeles after graduating, where she received qualifications in English and African American Studies. While she was still an undergraduate student DuVernay was interested in creating in the broadcast media. She began working as an intern at CBS News during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay recalled being asked to examine the garbage inside the home that belonged to a member of the jury. Her tasks left her disappointed with journalism, and she decided to pursue a career in the public relations sector. DuVernay began her career as a junior public relations assistant in a tiny film studio just after she had graduated from the college. She launched in 1999 her own company of public relations called The DuVernay Agency. In addition to PR her agency launched a number of promotions and lifestyle networks like the Urban Beauty Collective, Urban Thought Collective, Urban Eye and HelloBeautiful.
