Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator who works as a commentator for NBC News in Washington D.C. She is also a television anchor. She graduated with an undergraduate degree in English Literature at the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. In 1967 Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. She was then a reporter for the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP), situated in Washington DC. She joined NBC News Washington two years later as an general reporter. Beginning in 1981, she began covering the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. She was made Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist on the TV program Meet the Press and also hosted the program. Mitchell was a panelist during the 1988 presidential debates between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government as well as in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her contributions to the protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell reported on for the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 between the terms of Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Her coverage included a variety of significant stories, including the Iran-Contra controversy, tax and budget reforms and also the arms control. Mitchell traveled extensively with the president Reagan to meet together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
